Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) was conceived through the vision of former Pasig City Mayor Vicente C. Eusebio following the implementation of Republic Act No. 7160 (the Local Government Code of 1991). Recognizing the critical need for affordable yet high caliber collegiate training, the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Pasig enacted Ordinance No. 11, series of 1999 on March 15, 1999, creating the university charter.
On March 9, 2000, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted authority to the institution to offer degree programs within its public mandate. PLP opened its doors for its pioneering student cohort on June 14, 2000, beginning with six foundational degree courses: Secondary Education, Elementary Education, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Computer Science, and Information Technology.
To address the nation's burgeoning technical and healthcare demands, the university rapidly expanded its academic portfolio, adding Electronics and Communications Engineering (BSECE) in 2001 and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 2002. Over the subsequent two decades, PLP distinguished itself across Metro Manila for phenomenal performance in national licensure examinations, especially in Nursing and Teacher Education.
Today, under the leadership of Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis “Vico” N. Sotto as Chairman of the Board of Regents and Dr. Glicerio M. Maningas as University President, PLP has embraced systemic modernization. The institution is fully integrated with the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (CHED UniFAST, Republic Act No. 10931), guaranteeing zero tuition fees, meritocratic admissions, modernized computer laboratories, free digital connectivity stipends, and dedicated educational laptop grants for underserved youth.
