Quezon City is pulling out all the stops this Pride Month. On June 27, the city government is teaming up with the University of the Philippines Diliman and Pride PH to host what organizers are calling the biggest Pride gathering in Asia. The LoveLaban Pride Festival (also styled as LoveL4ban) is expected to draw around 300,000 members of the LGBTQIA+ community, their families, allies, and advocates to the UP Diliman campus for a full day of celebration, protest, and visibility.
What to Expect at LoveLaban
Unlike past editions that centered on a single stage, this year’s festival will spread across four distinct hubs built around the Academic Oval. Each one offers something different:
- Main Stage (Oblation Plaza) – Live performances from P-pop groups like ALAMAT, G22, and KAIA, plus headlining acts throughout the day
- Pride Expo and QueerCon – A marketplace where LGBTQIA+ micro, small, and medium enterprises can showcase products and services starting at 10 a.m.
- Satellite Stages at Palma Hall, Sunken Garden, and Melchor Hall – Each hub hosts advocacy talks, cultural presentations, health discussions, and youth-focused activities
- Grand Pride March – The main event begins at University Avenue, loops around the Academic Oval, exits onto Commonwealth Avenue, and returns via counterflow
- Pride Night – Evening programming kicks off at 6 p.m. with performances and community gatherings that run late
- Youth, Health, and Community Spaces – Dedicated zones where specific communities within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum can connect and share experiences
Last year’s festival drew 250,000 participants. Organizers are scaling up significantly, expecting this year to surpass that number by a solid margin.
Why This Matters for Quezon City
The tripartite agreement between the QC local government, UP Diliman, and Pride PH was formalized on June 4 at the QC ME Center. Mayor Joy Belmonte has been vocal about making Pride more than just a one-day event. Quezon City has rolled out a whole month of activities leading up to the festival, including a Pride Run, a Pride Dance Festival, a Graduation Rites ceremony for LGBTQIA+ graduates, a QC LGBTQIA+ Business Summit, and the QCinema Rainbow Film Festival.
