The Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines Inc. (CCFPI) continues to support waste workers and communities in General Santos City through Project E-REDUCE. This sustainability initiative is now active across 26 barangays in the city.
In partnership with the Sarangani Province Empowerment and Community Transformation Forum Inc. (SPECTRUM) and local government units, the program promotes a structured and inclusive approach to household waste management while empowering grassroots organizations.
Since its early days as Project REDUCE in 2018, the initiative began with coastal clean-up activities and post-collection efforts, working with local partners and schools to address plastic waste. Over time, collaboration with LGUs and barangays deepened.
Informal waste workers were integrated into more structured collection networks, and barangay-level plans were developed in alignment with General Santos City’s Ecological Solid Waste Management Plan.
Empowering Informal Waste Workers in General Santos City
One standout success story is the Zone Six Small Fishermen Association (ZSSFA) in Barangay Bula. With training and organizational support from Project E-REDUCE, the association formalized its leadership structures and strengthened its capacity to lead clean-up activities and environmental education.
They even manage a community-built boardwalk complete with a sari-sari store and canteen, plus a mangrove nursery that supplies seedlings to neighboring areas while supporting conservation and community stewardship.
These kinds of community-driven projects thrive when residents, organizations, and volunteers come together. And nothing brings a team together quite like a unified look.
For the volunteer groups, barangay associations, and environmental organizations participating in Project E-REDUCE, wearing coordinated shirts and uniforms builds camaraderie and makes teams instantly recognizable during clean-up drives and community events.

Key Achievements and Support Provided by Project E-REDUCE
The initiative provides comprehensive support to ensure the safety, efficiency, and empowerment of local waste workers. Here are some of the key components and achievements of the program:
- Structured Waste Segregation: Waste workers receive specialized training in segregation, material classification, and basic record-keeping.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): The project distributes safety gear, including gloves, boots, and masks, to protect workers from hazards.
- Operational Vehicles: Workers are provided with custom-designed pedicabs (padyak units) to assist in collecting materials efficiently.
- Official Identification: Distributing ID cards and designating specific routes helps formalize the workers’ roles and builds community trust.
- Material Recovery Facilities: The program supports the establishment and operation of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) to improve municipal sorting systems.
- Global Sustainability Alignment: The project aligns with global initiatives like the Coca-Cola Company’s World Without Waste program to create a circular economy for packaging.
Enhancing Community Coordination and Uniform Designs
To successfully coordinate large-scale environmental projects, volunteers and managers often travel across regions. For instance, coordinators frequently travel from General Santos to Tagum City to share best practices and resources with other Mindanao municipalities. This cross-regional collaboration highlights the value of having a unified and professional appearance during public activities.
Whether you are designing a City Meet Uniform in Tagum City or outfitting local government workers with a DOLE-TUPAD Uniform in the Davao Region, matching team shirts build credibility. Coordinated custom apparel helps volunteers stand out and promotes clean-up drives. It also instills a sense of shared purpose and pride among community participants.
We specialize in providing high-quality custom sublimation printing and bulk apparel manufacturing for local organizations, schools, and NGOs. We offer worldwide shipping to deliver custom uniforms to any destination globally. Our team partners with reliable international couriers, including DHL, FedEx, and UPS, to ensure fast and secure transit times for all international orders.
