The vibrant Kalilangan Festival 2026 once again put General Santos City in the national spotlight as the city celebrated its 36th edition of this beloved annual festival. Running from February 23 to 27, 2026, the festival coincided with the commemoration of the city 86th Founding Anniversary, making it a truly special celebration for residents and visitors alike.

Kalilangan, a term derived from the Maguindanaon word meaning “festivity” or “merriment”, is General Santos City premier cultural celebration. The festival honors the arrival of the city founder, General Paulino Santos, and the first pioneers from Luzon who settled in the shores of what was then known as Dadiangas.

This year celebration was a three-week long extravaganza that kicked off as early as February 11, packed with exciting events that highlighted the city diverse cultural heritage. The main festivities from February 23 to 27 featured an impressive lineup including cultural shows, civic-military parades, an agro-industrial fair, sports competitions, and the ever-popular beauty pageant.

Street dances and competitions brought energy and color to the streets of General Santos, encouraging participation from communities across the city. The performances showcased the convergence of cultures that make GenSan unique — a melting pot of indigenous, Muslim, and Christian traditions that have harmoniously coexisted for generations.

The city government placed security forces on full alert throughout the festival period to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators. The Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines recognized Kalilangan as one of the must-see festivals in the country, drawing tourists from across the archipelago.

The festival also served as a platform to promote local products and industries. The agro-industrial fair featured the best of South Cotabato agricultural output, from the famous GenSan tuna to tropical fruits and handicrafts that represent the region rich natural resources.
