Tacurong City once again proved its capability as a host for regional sporting events as it welcomed contingents from across Sultan Kudarat for the Sultan Kudarat Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) Meet 2026. City Mayor Lina O. Montilla, PhD, warmly welcomed the badminton contingents at the Tacurong City Cultural and Sports Center.

The SRAA Meet is an annual multi-sport competition that brings together student-athletes from the province of Sultan Kudarat and its component cities and municipalities. The tournament serves as a qualifying event for the Palarong Pambansa, the national games for Filipino student-athletes.

The badminton tournament was among the highlights of the SRAA Meet 2026, featuring young shuttlers from various divisions competing in singles and doubles categories. The games are organized by the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Tacurong City, which also coordinates the training of athletes who qualify for the national competition.

According to the official DepEd memorandum, divisions are encouraged to conduct intensive training for their respective athletes beginning April 21, 2026, in preparation for the national qualifiers. The competition showcases sportsmanship, discipline, and athletic excellence among the youth of Sultan Kudarat.

Hosting the SRAA Meet reflects Tacurong City commitment to supporting youth development through sports. The city sports facilities and organizational capacity have made it a preferred venue for provincial and regional competitions. Local officials have expressed pride in providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents on a bigger stage.

The grand opening ceremony of the SRAA 2026 was described as a historic and vibrant celebration, marking the official start of the games with colorful festivities and the parade of delegations from across the region.
