Several vehicles were damaged when a parking shed at the Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) – Access Campus in Tacurong City collapsed during strong winds and heavy rains on Monday, June 1, 2026. The incident occurred around 4:00 PM when a localized thunderstorm battered the area, causing the roof and metal frames of the covered parking structure to give way.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. School officials confirmed that faculty and students were advised to use the exit gate as a temporary safety measure while the administration assessed and inspected the campus for other damage. Apart from the collapsed parking shed, several trees and electric posts within the campus also fell due to the strong winds.

Community Response and Safety Measures

In nearby Barangay Cale-an, several houses were also damaged by the same storm system. Affected residents reported that they have temporarily stayed with relatives while waiting for assistance. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) attributed the severe weather to localized thunderstorms affecting parts of Soccsksargen.

The SKSU administration released a statement urging the academic community to remain vigilant during the rainy season and to follow safety protocols. The incident serves as a reminder for schools and institutions across Sultan Kudarat to regularly inspect and reinforce their facilities ahead of the storm season.

Strengthening School Identity Through Uniforms

While the university works on repairs and safety upgrades, the spirit of campus life at SKSU continues. One important aspect of building a strong academic community is through school uniforms and organization shirts. SKSU’s various colleges, student organizations, and academic clubs regularly use customized school apparel to foster identity and unity among students.

From college departments to student government bodies, having well-designed org uniforms helps build a sense of belonging and pride. Whether for college weeks, academic conferences, or outreach programs, coordinated outfits make any school activity more organized and memorable.

Preparing for the Rainy Season

With the onset of the rainy season and the increasing frequency of localized thunderstorms, PAGASA continues to advise schools, businesses, and homeowners to secure their properties. The SKSU Tacurong incident underscores the importance of having contingency plans and conducting regular structural audits.

For school organizations and barangay groups planning outreach or relief activities for communities affected by storms, having a set of custom event shirts can help identify volunteers and organizers, especially during large-scale community response efforts.
