SM City Mindpro and SM City Zamboanga brought the true spirit of bayanihan to Barangay Bolong as they joined Brigada Eskwela 2026 through a meaningful outreach activity at Mangga Elementary School. Employee-volunteers and security personnel from both SM malls worked side by side with teachers and school staff to help prepare the school for the opening of classes, demonstrating their commitment to education and community development in Zamboanga City.
With sleeves rolled up and hearts dedicated to service, the volunteers participated in various school improvement activities — painting classrooms, cleaning facilities, and tidying up the school grounds — helping create a cleaner, safer, and more conducive learning environment for returning students. The effort is part of SM Supermalls’ nationwide commitment to supporting education through volunteerism.
As part of the initiative, SM Zamboanga malls also turned over essential school materials, including books, paints, electric fans, and cleaning supplies, to support Mangga Elementary School’s preparations for School Year 2026-2027. These donations will go a long way in helping teachers and students start the school year with the resources they need.
“Education is a powerful tool for building stronger communities. Through this activity, we are given the opportunity to contribute in our own way by helping create a better learning environment for our students,” said Jodie Durens, SM City Zamboanga Assistant Mall Manager.
Brigada Eskwela is the Department of Education’s annual nationwide school maintenance program that brings together teachers, parents, students, and community partners to prepare public schools for the opening of classes.
