The beloved Festival Junij v Ljubljani is back in Slovenia’s capital for its 18th edition, running from June 9 through June 21, 2026. Now officially a fully-fledged adult festival, this year’s program promises a vibrant journey through music, art, dance, and theater — all set in the beautiful open-air venues of Park Zvezda and Kongresni trg in the heart of Ljubljana.
Organized by the City of Ljubljana, the festival kicked off with an opening concert by Uroš Perić & The Bluenote Quartet & The Pearlettes, setting the tone for two weeks of free cultural events that attract thousands of locals and visitors alike.
What’s On at Festival Junij v Ljubljani
The program is packed with diversity. Day two features a concert by Rock mulčki with special guests, followed by performances from students of the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday brings the finals of the 13th Špil League and a concert by Mladih zmajev.
Sunday belongs to the Rock Academy of Pionirski dom — Center for Youth Culture — while Monday offers an internationally flavored circus-themed day complete with acrobatics and circus equipment workshops open to all ages.
The festival’s ballet highlight is a gala evening performed by the SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana on Thursday, while contemporary dance takes center stage on June 16 with a performance titled Prikaz 26: Proti vetru by Ljubljana’s Secondary School of Education, Gymnasium and Art Gymnasium.
The festival also hosts the grand opening of the international Imago Sloveniae festival and Summer in Old Ljubljana, featuring a concert by the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra highlighting its young members.
Family Fun and Creative Workshops
Younger visitors are well taken care of with daily children’s performances, puppet shows, music and dance presentations, and creative workshops running throughout the festival. A special festival playground awaits in Park Zvezda, alongside one of the reading islands of the Library Under the Canopy project. The City of Ljubljana also promises a guided tour exploring the history of Slovenian women writers.
Grand Finale: A City-Wide Celebration of Music
The festival wraps up on June 21 — World Music Day — with over 400 musicians performing at various locations across the Slovenian capital. Ljubljana will be celebrating music alongside roughly 700 cities around the globe, making it a truly international finale.
