Inglewood is a city in southwestern Los Angeles County, California, located near Los Angeles International Airport. With a population of over 107,000, it is known as the “City of Champions” — a nickname earned through its world-class sports venues and championship legacy. Inglewood is home to SoFi Stadium, the Kia Forum, and the upcoming 2028 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, making it one of the most important sports and entertainment hubs in the United States.

SoFi Stadium and Sports Capital

Inglewood is the home of SoFi Stadium, a state-of-the-art 70,000-seat venue that opened in 2020. The stadium is home to two NFL teams — the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers — and has hosted Super Bowl LVI in 2022. It will also host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the opening ceremony of the 2028 Summer Olympics. The stadium’s iconic design and advanced technology have made it one of the most impressive sports venues in the world.

The Kia Forum, which opened in 1967, is another legendary Inglewood venue. It was home to the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings for decades before the opening of Crypto.com Arena. Today, the Forum is one of the premier concert venues in Southern California, hosting major artists and events year-round.

Hollywood Park and History

SoFi Stadium sits on the former site of Hollywood Park Racetrack, a legendary horse racing venue that operated from 1938 to 2013. The racetrack hosted some of the most famous races in American racing history before closing. The area has been redeveloped into Hollywood Park, a mixed-use entertainment district with the stadium, a casino, retail, and residential developments.

Inglewood was incorporated on February 14, 1908, and grew as a residential community following the opening of the Venice–Inglewood railway in 1887. The city has a rich cultural heritage and a diverse community, with a large Hispanic population alongside significant Black, White, and Asian communities.

Climate and Geography

Inglewood sits at 130 feet above sea level on the coastal plain, just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. The climate is Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The city covers 9 square miles and enjoys over 280 days of sunshine per year. Ocean breezes keep temperatures moderate year-round.

From horse racing to the NFL to the Olympics, Inglewood has always been a place where champions compete — a city that has reinvented itself repeatedly while maintaining its identity as the City of Champions.
