The Kings County Courthouse, located at 360 Adams Street in Downtown Brooklyn, is the judicial heart of one of New York City’s most populous boroughs. The current building, a Beaux-Arts landmark completed in 1908, continues to serve as the venue for major civil and criminal proceedings.

Brooklyn’s Judicial Landmark

Designed by architects Brite and Bacon, the Kings County Courthouse replaced an older courthouse that had become inadequate for Brooklyn’s booming population. The building’s classical design features a grand portico with Ionic columns, a copper-clad dome, and an imposing facade of pale granite.

Notable Cases

Brooklyn’s courts have handled cases that made national headlines including organized crime trials, corrupt politicians, and high-profile murder cases. The civil courts have adjudicated major commercial disputes and class-action lawsuits.

The Brooklyn Courts Complex

The Kings County Courthouse is part of a larger judicial complex in Downtown Brooklyn that includes separate buildings for criminal courts, family courts, and civil courts. The area has undergone significant revitalization in recent years.

Visiting

The courthouse is located at 360 Adams Street in Brooklyn, near the Borough Hall subway station. The building is open to the public during regular business hours.
