Provinces of Turkey (Türkiye): All 81 Provinces by Region
Türkiye is divided into 81 provinces, and every province sits inside one of seven official geographical regions. For an apparel importer, that map is a practical tool: it shows which provinces carry the ports, airports, textile mills, and land borders that move garments into and across the country. This page lists all 81 provinces by plate code, grouped by region, with the English and Turkish name and a note on what each place contributes to the trade.
All 81 Provinces, Grouped by Region
The regions follow the seven geographical areas defined in 1941 for geography, demographics, and economic planning. They are not administrative units, so a single province can touch two regions; each is placed in the region it is normally assigned to. Plate codes run from 01 to 81, and the early codes follow alphabetical order. Thirty of these provinces run the two tier municipal model, listed in the 30 metropolitan municipalities (büyükşehir belediyeleri) register.

How many provinces does Türkiye have?
Türkiye has 81 provinces, called il in Turkish. Each province is divided into districts, known as ilçe, and each provincial government sits in the central district.
What are the seven regions of Türkiye?

What is the plate code on each province?
Every province carries a two digit vehicle registration plate code from 01 to 81. The first codes follow the alphabetical order of the province names, and after Zonguldak at code 67 the order follows the year each later province was created.
Which provinces matter most for apparel sourcing?
Istanbul and Bursa lead in apparel and knitwear, Denizli in home textiles, Kahramanmaraş in knitwear and denim, Gaziantep in carpet and textiles, Kayseri in upholstery fabric, and Izmir with Uşak and Aydın across the Aegean cotton and leather base. Malatya, Adıyaman, and Şanlıurfa also run significant garment production.
Which province has the largest port?
The Port of Ambarli sits in Istanbul and handles the largest share of Turkish container trade, with the Port of Aliağa in Izmir as the deepwater Aegean alternative, Mersin as the main Mediterranean container port, and Samsunport as the largest Black Sea port.

How do garments arrive by land?
By road and rail through named border crossings: Kapıkule in Edirne toward the European Union, Sarp in Artvin toward Georgia, Habur in Şırnak toward Iraq, and Gürbulak in Ağrı toward Iran.
Can a province belong to more than one region?
Yes. The regions are geographic rather than administrative, so a province can touch two of them. This list places each province in the region it is normally assigned to, which is why the regional counts add up to exactly 81.
