The Haiti national football team (French: Équipe d’Haïti de football; Haitian Creole: Ekip Foutbòl Ayiti), known as “Les Grenadiers” (The Grenadiers), represents Haiti in men’s international football. Controlled by the Fédération Haïtienne de Football (FHF, founded 1904, FIFA affiliation 1934), Haiti is the second Caribbean nation to have reached a FIFA World Cup, and the only Caribbean team ever to win the CONCACAF Championship, achieved in 1973 on home soil. The team’s home ground is Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince.
World Cup History
Haiti has qualified for the FIFA World Cup twice — 1974 and 2026 — separated by 52 years, the joint-fourth longest such gap in tournament history (behind Wales 64 years between 1958 and 2022, Egypt 56 years between 1934 and 1990, and Norway 56 years between 1938 and 1994). The 1974 squad, led by coach Antoine Tassy, faced Italy, Poland, and pre-tournament favorites Argentina in the group stage, losing all three. The 2026 squad — drawn into Group B with Brazil, Morocco, and Scotland — repeated the result (Pld 3, W 0, D 0, L 3, GF 2, GA 8).
How They Qualified for 2026
Due to the ongoing security and political crisis in Haiti, the national team was unable to host any matches at home and played all of its qualifying fixtures at neutral sites. In the third round of CONCACAF qualifying, Haiti was grouped with Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua in Group C. After drawing both Honduras and Costa Rica and beating Nicaragua once, a 3-0 loss to Honduras left them needing results to fall their way. A 1-0 win over Costa Rica and a 2-0 win over Nicaragua on the final matchday, combined with Honduras drawing Costa Rica, saw Haiti finish top of Group C and earn direct qualification for the second time in the country’s history.
CONCACAF Championship and Gold Cup
Haiti has contested 17 of 28 editions of CONCACAF’s premier continental competition. The 1973 championship stands as their greatest achievement — winning the title at home in Port-au-Prince after a campaign featuring a 2-1 win over Guatemala with two Emmanuel Sanon goals and a famous 0-4 Mexico loss to Trinidad and Tobago that handed Haiti the trophy. Haiti has finished as runners-up at the 1971 and 1977 championships. Under the modern Gold Cup format, the team’s best run was the 2019 semifinals — a 3-0 group stage including a last-minute winner against Costa Rica and a 3-2 comeback win over Canada in the quarterfinals before falling 1-0 to Mexico on a late penalty.
Coaching and Squad
Sébastien Migné, a 53-year-old Frenchman, has led Haiti since June 2024 and is the first non-Haitian to coach the country at a World Cup. His previous international experience includes managing Kenya at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and Haiti at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Captain Johny Placide is Haiti’s most experienced international, having debuted in 2011 and playing in three Gold Cups including the 2019 semifinal run. The 2026 squad drew heavily from French-based Haitian heritage, including players from Ligue 2 and the Belgian First Division.

The Curaçao national football team, nicknamed “De Blauwe Gol” or “The Blue Wave,” represents Curaçao — a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands — in men’s international football. Controlled by the Federashon Futbòl Kòrsou (FFK), Curaçao is the smallest nation by both population (~156,000) and area (444 sq km) ever to qualify for a FIFA World Cup. The team is the direct sporting successor of the Netherlands Antilles, inheriting their FIFA records and ranking when the Netherlands Antilles were dissolved in October 2010.
2026 World Cup — Debut and Historic Qualifying Campaign
Curaçao qualified for their first-ever FIFA World Cup on 18 November 2025, drawing 0-0 with Jamaica in Kingston on the final matchday of CONCACAF qualifying to top Group B. In the qualifying cycle overall, Curaçao amassed 28 goals scored and just 5 conceded across 10 matches — the best attacking record of any team in CONCACAF qualifying. Hat-tricks came from Rangelo Janga (vs Barbados, 4-1) and Gervane Kastaneer (vs Saint Lucia, 4-0). Their group also included a 5-1 demolition of Haiti, a 3-2 home win over Bermuda, a 2-0 home win over Jamaica, and a 7-0 away win in Bermuda.
At the 2026 tournament, Curaçao was drawn into Group E with Germany, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador. They took a 1-1 draw from the group — the first-ever point for Curaçao at a World Cup and the first goal scored by a nation this small at the tournament. Final group record: Pld 3, W 0, D 1, L 2, GF 1, GA 9.
Dick Advocaat and the Road to the World Cup
At 78 years and 260 days old, head coach Dick Advocaat became the oldest manager in FIFA World Cup history when he took charge for the opening match against Germany in Houston. A veteran of USA 1994 (quarterfinals with the Netherlands) and Germany 2006 (group stage with South Korea), Advocaat took the Curaçao job in January 2024 after Remko Bicentini’s long tenure. He briefly resigned in February 2026 due to family health matters before returning to the role ahead of the tournament. Dutchman Fred Rutten briefly succeeded him between those stints.
The Curaçao-Dutch Pipeline
Of the 26 players selected for the 2026 finals, 25 were born in the Netherlands. Only Tahith Chong, who took his first football steps on the island before moving to Dutch club football, was born in Curaçao itself. The Curaçao-Dutch pipeline traces back to former Netherlands international Patrick Kluivert’s involvement in developing the federation from 2015. The Bacuna brothers — Leandro and Juninho — are prominent examples of Curaçaoan-heritage players representing the nation.
Caribbean and CONCACAF History
Curaçao’s continental history is built on the 2017 Caribbean Cup victory, when they defeated Martinique 2-1 in the semifinals and Jamaica 2-1 in the final (Jamaica had won the title six times). That win earned Curaçao qualification for their first CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2017, where they lost all group-stage matches against Jamaica, El Salvador, and Mexico. The 2019 Gold Cup brought another step forward — a run to the quarterfinals — before narrow elimination. In the 2022 World Cup qualifying, Curaçao reached the final round before being eliminated by Panama 2-1 on aggregate.
