Got questions about die casting, artwork requirements, or production times? Here are answers to common inquiries.
What is the minimum order quantity for custom challenge coins?
Our minimum order quantity is 50 pieces per design. Because challenge coins require custom steel tooling dies to be milled for both the front (obverse) and back (reverse), bulk orders of 100, 300, or 500+ pieces significantly reduce the per-unit cost.
What is the difference between 2D and 3D challenge coins?
2D coins feature flat raised metal line art with recessed colored enamel on two levels, making them ideal for clear vector crests, lettering, and official unit logos. 3D coins have multi-level sculpted curvature with infinite height gradations, creating lifelike depth for buildings, statues, aircraft, naval vessels, and detailed faces.
What standard coin diameters and thicknesses do you produce?
Standard challenge coin diameters range from 1.50 inches (38mm), 1.75 inches (44mm), 2.00 inches (50mm), up to 2.50 inches (63mm). Standard thickness is 3.5mm to 4.5mm for substantial hand weight, though coins up to 5.0mm with diamond-cut edges are also available upon request.
Can the front and back of the coin have completely different designs?
Yes! Every coin order includes two fully custom steel molds: one for the obverse (front) and one for the reverse (back). You can also mix styles, such as a 3D sculpted battalion crest on the front with a 2D soft enamel motto and unit seal on the back.
Do you provide free artwork proofs and vector conversion?
Yes. Our graphic design team prepares a full-color digital artwork proof showing exact dimensions, metal plating colors, 2D/3D elevations, and Pantone enamel fills. We require your written approval before opening production steel dies.
