How it works

What metallic foil printing actually is

Foil printing bonds a thin metallic film to the fabric with heat and pressure. The film sits on top of the garment surface, so it reflects light instead of absorbing it. The result is a mirror-like wordmark, emblem, or monogram that looks like a metal badge rather than a print.

Foil works best on flat, smooth surfaces where the film can bond evenly. On cotton and fleece it takes a crisp, sharp edge. On tightly woven canvas and caps it holds a clean setting. Where a design has fine photographic detail, we pair foil with DTF or embroidery so the fine work stays sharp and the foil carries the headline element.

Every foil order includes a free digital mockup and a physical sample on request before the full run is pressed.

Finishes

Four foil finishes, one production run

Choose a single finish for a clean brand look or combine finishes within one design. Foil is quoted per placement and per finish.

Metallic gold

The classic premium foil. Warm, high contrast, and legible from a distance. Strong on black, navy, and deep green garments.

  • Best for logos, crests, and monograms
  • Reads well on dark fabrics

Metallic silver

A neutral chrome look that pairs with almost any colorway. Popular on hoodies, caps, and corporate giveaways.

  • Neutral, modern finish
  • Strong contrast on mid tones

Rose gold

A soft warm metallic that suits lifestyle brands, beauty, and boutique hospitality. Subtle shine, softer contrast.

  • Lifestyle and retail branding
  • Great on cream and pastel blanks

Holographic

A rainbow shifting film that reads metallic from a distance and multicolor up close. Built for events, esports, and streetwear drops.

  • Event and campaign pieces
  • Highest visual impact

Foil against the other decoration methods

Foil is a finishing method, not a replacement for every print. Here is where it wins and where another technique does better.

Process

From artwork to pressed foil in four steps

Artwork check

We review line weight and separation. Foil needs a clear edge, so we adjust thin detail before pressing.

Mockup and sample

You approve a free digital mockup. Physical samples are available on request before the full run.

Heat press

Trained operators press the film at controlled temperature and dwell so the bond is even across the run.

Quality check

Each piece is inspected for edge lift, alignment, and shine before packing and dispatch nationwide.

Questions

Foil printing FAQ

Will the foil survive washing?

Yes, when cared for correctly. Turn the garment inside out, wash in cold water, and avoid tumble drying and direct ironing on the foil. A properly pressed foil bond holds its shine for the life of the garment under normal use.

Can foil be combined with a normal print or embroidery?

Yes. A common build is foil for the main wordmark plus DTF or embroidery for fine detail and secondary elements. We lay out the placements so the finishes align cleanly.

Which garments work best with foil?

Smooth, flat surfaces give the crispest result: cotton tees, fleece hoodies, caps, and canvas totes. Very textured or highly elastic performance fabrics may need a different method, and we will tell you before production.

What is the minimum order for foil printing?

From 20 pieces per design and placement. Smaller runs can be quoted on request. Volume pricing improves from 100 pieces upward.

Can I see a sample before the full run?

Yes. Every order includes a free digital mockup, and a physical foil sample is available on request so you can check the shine and edge quality before we press the full quantity.
