The NBI Clearance is one of those documents that pops up in almost every government transaction. Whether you’re applying for a job, renewing a license, or submitting requirements for a government bid, an NBI Clearance is almost always on the checklist. Getting it online has made the process much faster, but the appointment system still trips up first-timers.

The National Bureau of Investigation online appointment system replaced the old walk-in setup a few years back, and it’s been a huge improvement. You can now book your appointment, pay online, and claim your clearance on the same day — but only if you follow the process correctly. Here’s the step-by-step rundown.

  • Go to the NBI Clearance Online website at nbi-clearance.ph (not the old site — this is the official portal as of the latest update)
  • Create an account using your email address and a valid mobile number — you’ll receive an OTP for verification before you can proceed with the appointment
  • Fill in your personal information: full name, date of birth, place of birth, gender, civil status, address, and your purpose for getting the clearance (choose “Employment” or “Government Requirements” if it’s for bidding)
  • Select your preferred NBI branch office, date, and time slot — popular branches like NBI Manila or NBI Davao fill up fast, so book at least two weeks ahead
  • Pay the clearance fee online via GCash, Maya, online banking, or over-the-counter at partner payment centers — the fee is around PHP 160 to PHP 250 depending on the purpose
  • On your appointment date, arrive at the NBI branch at least 30 minutes early with your printed appointment confirmation, a valid ID, and your payment receipt
  • After biometrics capture and photo, you’ll receive your NBI Clearance on the same day — unless you get flagged for “Hit” (a name match with someone in the database), which means additional processing of 2 to 4 weeks

If you already have an existing NBI Clearance, remember that it’s valid for one year from the date of issue.
