2026 Shanghai Qipao Month officially launched on June 6 at the Shanghai Mass Art Museum. This event brings together fashion enthusiasts, cultural preservationists, and the general public for a month-long celebration of one of China’s most iconic garments, the qipao, which is also known as cheongsam.

According to the official announcement on City News Service, the citywide celebration runs through June 28, 2026.

Shanghai Qipao Month Activities

Organized by the Shanghai Women’s Federation and city cultural bureaus, the event focuses on heritage revitalization and cultural-commerce integration. Activities span multiple districts and iconic city landmarks. The exhibition at the Shanghai Mass Art Center is free to the public.

Visitors can experience several interactive highlights at the main venue:

  • A curated qipao art exhibition tracing one hundred years of Shanghai-style clothing evolution.
  • Digital wardrobe mirrors that allow attendees to try on virtual designs.
  • Real-life styling studios offering professional qipao photoshoots.
  • Cultural lectures led by heritage inheritors and fashion industry experts.
  • A creative market showcasing handmade accessories and original cultural products.
  • Themed performances held by local art groups across the city.

City-Wide Runway Shows and Venues

Throughout the month, city-wide fashion shows showcase the versatility of the garment. These runway presentations blend traditional hand-embroidered silk designs with modern adaptations. Events take place at several landmark locations, including Huangpu River cruise boats and the Pudong EKA Tianwu creative park.

The resurgence of the qipao presents significant opportunities for custom apparel businesses. Modern clothing inspired by traditional designs is trending globally, blending elegance with contemporary styling. Designers are increasingly using custom-printed fabrics with traditional motifs like butterflies and peonies.

Custom print shops can explore these heritage elements for custom merchandise. Items like patterned t-shirts, themed tote bags, and printed accessories are highly popular among consumers. Our printing services help brands bring these traditional designs to life with vibrant colors and high-quality finishes.
