Bulacan Governor Fernando has ordered all local government units, including the City of Malolos, to intensify their earthquake preparedness measures following recent seismic activity in the region.

The directive calls for updated emergency response plans, regular earthquake drills in schools and government buildings, and the pre-positioning of relief goods and medical supplies across the province. Malolos, as the provincial capital, is expected to lead the implementation of these readiness programs.

“We cannot be complacent when it comes to disaster preparedness,” Governor Fernando stated. “The safety of every Bulakenyo, especially those in densely populated areas like Malolos, is our top priority.”

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has been monitoring increased tectonic activity along the West Valley Fault system, which runs through parts of Bulacan. Experts have long warned that a major earthquake could significantly impact cities in the province, including Malolos, due to its proximity to the fault line.

City officials have been tasked with conducting structural assessments of critical infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and public markets. Barangay-level disaster risk reduction committees are also being activated to ensure community-level preparedness.

Residents are advised to prepare emergency kits containing water, food, first aid supplies, and important documents. Families should also familiarize themselves with evacuation routes and designated assembly points in their areas.
