The Department of Agriculture (DA) has extended P4.6 million in financial assistance to 1,545 farmers and fisherfolk in Malolos City, Bulacan, providing a much-needed boost to the city’s agricultural sector. This initiative, rolled out under the national UPLIFT Program, distributed P3,000 to each qualified beneficiary to help them sustain their livelihoods and invest in alternative sources of income.

According to City Agriculturist Romeo Bartolo, all recipients were verified through the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA), ensuring that only legitimate farmers and fisherfolk received the aid. The program was created as a response to rising fuel costs driven by global economic pressures, directly impacting agricultural production and transport costs in communities like Malolos.

In addition to the national assistance, the Malolos City Government provided an extra P5,000 each to 58 farmers whose rice fields were affected by drought and limited irrigation water supply from Angat and Bustos dams. These farmers came from the barangays of Santor, Ligas, Sumapang Matanda, and Balayong — the areas hardest hit by the dry spell. The supplemental aid was prioritized for these communities to help mitigate losses in rice production.

Mayor Christian Natividad acknowledged that while the assistance may not fully cover all losses, it is a timely intervention that eases the burden on the city’s agricultural workers. The partnership between the national DA and the local government unit of Malolos reflects a unified effort to strengthen food security and rural livelihoods in the province of Bulacan.
