The Social Security System (SSS) has brought its eWheels mobile service caravan to island communities in Siargao, Surigao del Norte, making it easier for members in remote areas to access essential government services without traveling to the mainland.
The SSS eWheels initiative, in partnership with the Palengke Caravan program, offers on-site registration, loan applications, benefit claims processing, and member assistance to residents of far-flung barangays across the Siargao island group.
Many island residents have long faced challenges in accessing SSS services due to the distance and cost of traveling to Surigao City proper. The mobile caravan eliminates these barriers by bringing the services directly to the communities.
“We want to ensure that no SSS member is left behind, especially those living in geographically isolated areas. The eWheels program is our way of reaching out and making social security services truly inclusive,” an SSS representative said during the outreach event.
The Palengke Caravan component also provides affordable goods and commodities to island residents, helping address the high cost of basic necessities in remote coastal communities.
The outreach program is expected to visit more island communities in the Surigao region in the coming months, as part of the governments commitment to bringing public services closer to every Filipino.
