Koronadal City marked its 86th Foundation Anniversary with the vibrant Hinugyaw Festival 2026, a weeklong celebration that ran from January 5 to 11 and brought together thousands of residents and visitors in a showcase of cultural pride, youth talent, and community unity.

Held under the theme Gateway to Culture and Creativity, the festival honored the city's rich heritage and the diverse communities — Tboli, Blaan, Maguindanaon, and Christian settlers — whose contributions continue to shape Koronadal's unique identity as the capital city of South Cotabato.

The Hinugyaw Festival, derived from the Hiligaynon word meaning merriment or rejoicing, was created specifically to honor Koronadal's foundation day. Senator Loren Legarda praised the city for integrating cultural preservation into local development during her message at the celebration.

One of the major highlights was the drumline competition, featuring four groups from different schools across South Cotabato. Bentung Sulit National High School was declared champion, with Christian School of Polomolok as first runner-up, Esperanza National High School Cadet in second, and Marbel 5 National High School in third.

Local officials underscored the importance of sustaining cultural programs to promote unity and inclusive development. The festival served as both a celebration of thanksgiving and a convergence of cultures, reflecting Koronadal's commitment to honoring its diverse histories and identities.
