The School Year 2026-2027 officially opened today, June 8, across the Philippines, including in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, where thousands of students returned to classrooms as the Department of Education and the Philippine National Police rolled out comprehensive security and readiness measures under Oplan Balik-Eskwela.

The PNP deployed more than 55,000 security personnel nationwide, with Police Assistance Desks established in schools across Koronadal City and the rest of the Soccsksargen Region to ensure the safety of returning students, teachers, and parents. Police visibility was heightened around school zones, with mobile patrol units securing major thoroughfares and pedestrian crossings in the city.

In Koronadal City and across South Cotabato, public schools have undergone Brigada Eskwela cleanup drives from June 1 to 5, where parents, teachers, and volunteers worked together to prepare classrooms and facilities. The DepEd also activated its Project HANDA initiative to track school readiness, monitor physical facilities, and ensure instructional materials are in place for the opening of classes.

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara confirmed earlier this week that classes will proceed as scheduled despite rumors of possible class suspensions. The department also announced key reforms for SY 2026-2027, including the nationwide implementation of the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum, which offers more flexible learning pathways and expanded elective options. Teachers are also set to receive their P10,000 teaching allowance to help cover out-of-pocket expenses for classroom supplies.

For schools, organizations, and parent-teacher associations in Koronadal City preparing for the new school year, custom school uniforms and PE uniforms are essential for students as they settle into the new academic calendar. Schools and clubs can also order custom-printed organization shirts for their student clubs, academic teams, and school events throughout the year.

The DepEd also announced the controlled integration of artificial intelligence as a support tool to enhance the learning experience. The Three-Term School Calendar, Learning Continuity in Emergencies framework, revised Lesson Planning policies, and updated Assessment and Grading guidelines are all being rolled out this school year to strengthen the delivery of quality education.

With over 26 million learners enrolled nationally and preparations well underway in Koronadal City’s public and private schools, the SY 2026-2027 opening marks a significant step forward in educational reform, campus safety, and community collaboration. Local government units, barangay officials, and school administrators in Koronadal continue to work together to create a productive and safe learning environment for students throughout the school year.

Organizations and school clubs planning activities this school year can also explore custom event shirts and school organization uniforms for their academic teams, clubs, and co-curricular events to build a strong sense of identity and school pride.
