Hamburg is getting a brand-new landmark. The city has launched the official tender for the Elbdome, a state-of-the-art multifunctional arena planned for the Rothenburgsort district. It is set to become the new home of the Hamburg Towers basketball team and a major venue for concerts, trade fairs, and cultural events.
A New Home for the Hamburg Towers
The Hamburg Towers have outgrown their current arena in Wilhelmsburg, which holds just over 3,000 spectators. The Elbdome will seat approximately 9,000 people, giving the team — and their growing fan base — a proper Bundesliga-caliber venue. The Towers recently secured their place in the league with a dramatic overtime win against the Rostock Seawolves.
For fans, this means more opportunities to gear up with basketball merchandise, from team jerseys to fan shirts and hoodies.
More Than Just Basketball
The Elbdome is not just for sports. The city plans to host concerts, cultural performances, and trade exhibitions. With events come custom concert tees and event apparel.
Behind the project is the Billebogen Entwicklungsgesellschaft, a city-backed development company driving the transformation of the Billebogen area. A 1,000-space parking garage is also planned. Construction could begin by the end of the decade, with the arena opening in the early 2030s.
