Locally Sourced Mass Timber Roof
The terminal is sheltered by a magnificent 9-acre curved wooden roof constructed from 3.5 million board feet of Douglas fir. 100 percent of the timber was sourced within a 300 mile radius of the airport from small family tree farms, Native American tribal lands including the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and certified sustainable community forests.
Supported by 34 Y shaped structural steel columns, the sweeping lattice ceiling features 49 large skylights that flood the check in lobby and post security market with natural Pacific Northwest sunlight, reducing artificial lighting energy consumption by over 50 percent.
