The Pasig River Esplanade is a free, traffic free linear promenade along the southern bank of the Pasig River in Manila. Built under the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli (PBBM) urban renewal initiative and masterplanned by WTA Architecture and Design Studio with PGAA Creative Design, the completed walk now spans roughly 1.88 to 1.99 kilometers from Fort Santiago and Plaza Mexico in Intramuros past the Binondo Intramuros Bridge, Jones Bridge, and the Manila Central Post Office all the way to Arroceros Forest Park near LRT 1 Central Terminal Station.
A people centered waterfront reclaiming Manila's historic riverbanks for pedestrians, cyclists, and heritage tourism.
The Pasig River Esplanade is the flagship civic space of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli (PBBM) urban development program. Established on July 25, 2023 under Executive Order No. 35, the project is overseen by the Inter Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development (IAC PRUD), chaired by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) alongside the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local city governments.
Featured on international architectural platforms such as Architizer, the masterplan was developed through a collaboration between WTA Architecture and Design Studio (led by Principal Architect William Ti Jr.) and PGAA Creative Design (led by Landscape Architect Paulo Alcazaren). Rather than walling off the river with concrete flood barriers, the design introduces wide cantilevered walkways, dedicated 3 meter cycling lanes, arched radial alcoves, native riverside landscaping, and neoclassical balustrades that echo the historic Manila Central Post Office and Jones Bridge.
Across the water on the north bank sits the historic commercial skyline of Binondo and Escolta, including the First United Building and the Burke Building. By linking Intramuros, Plaza Mexico, the Post Office, and Arroceros Forest Park into one uninterrupted south bank promenade, the esplanade has become one of Manila's top sunset viewing decks and photography spots.

Walk the entire 1.9 kilometer Manila riverfront in 25 to 35 minutes at a relaxed pace, or pause at each landmark gateway along the way.
Begins along the historic stone fortifications of Intramuros overlooking the Pasig River. Visitors with a Fort Santiago ticket can pass directly between the citadel grounds and the riverside deck via the river gate.
Runs past the reconstructed Maestranza curtain wall, chambers, and open air activity plaza into Plaza Mexico, which commemorates the historic Manila Acapulco Galleon Trade across the Pacific.
Connects directly to the modern steel arch Binondo Intramuros Bridge and features a two story riverside pavilion with ground floor food and retail stalls and an elevated rooftop viewing deck.
Meets the southern approach of Jones Bridge (adorned with the restored La Madre Filipina sculptures) and faces the Escolta Ferry Station and heritage art deco buildings directly across the water.
The original 500 meter showcase promenade curving behind the iconic neoclassical columned facade of the Manila Central Post Office designed by Juan Marcos Arellano and Tomas Mapua.
Extends upstream under MacArthur Bridge and Quezon Bridge beside Plaza Lawton, terminating directly at Arroceros Forest Park (Manila's urban forest sanctuary) and LRT 1 Central Terminal.
Delivered in rapid segments between January 2024 and 2026 to stitch together Manila's historic civic core.
Opened behind the Manila Central Post Office toward Jones Bridge. Replaced an overgrown, inaccessible riverbank with a 500 meter (1,640 foot) neoclassical promenade featuring baluster railings, heritage lampposts, and radial viewing decks that quickly became a viral Manila sunset destination on Instagram, Pinterest, and ABS CBN Lifestyle.
Added 250 meters westward from Jones Bridge to Plaza Mexico and the Binondo Intramuros Bridge. Introduced a two level structure with a 3 meter wide rooftop pedestrian and bicycle ramp above and a ground floor commercial arcade housing more than 30 food, coffee, and souvenir stalls.
Extended the walkway 600 meters along the Intramuros riverfront, integrating Plaza Mexico, the historic Maestranza Wall chambers, and the Fort Santiago Riverwalk. Unlocked roughly 2,000 square meters of open public space for cultural exhibits, acoustic concerts, and direct pedestrian transitions into Intramuros.
Pushed the promenade 530 meters east from the Manila Central Post Office past Plaza Lawton, passing beneath MacArthur Bridge and Quezon Bridge to connect directly with Arroceros Forest Park and LRT 1 Central Terminal Station, creating the continuous 1.88 to 1.99 km corridor featured in 2026 travel guides.
Masterplan Note: Subsequent segments under the IAC PRUD roadmap are planned to extend the riverwalk network upstream through Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasig City, and Taguig toward Laguna de Bay, with integrated water quality rehabilitation alongside cleanup partners.

Whether you are commuting by train, boarding the river ferry, walking from Ermita or Intramuros, or driving your own car, here are the most reliable entry points.
Board LRT 1 and alight at Central Terminal Station. Walk 5 minutes northwest past the Manila Metropolitan Theater and through Arroceros Forest Park to step directly onto Phase 4 of the esplanade, or continue to the Manila Central Post Office forecourt (Phase 1A). Alternatively, alight at Carriedo Station, walk through historic Escolta Street, and cross Jones Bridge to the south bank.
Ride the air conditioned MMDA Pasig River Ferry from Guadalupe (Makati), Hulo (Mandaluyong), Lambingan, Sta. Ana, PUP, or Quinta Market and disembark directly at Lawton Ferry Station (at the Post Office end) or Escolta Ferry Station (at the foot of Jones Bridge). Ferry rides are currently free of charge with a valid ID from Monday to Saturday during daytime operating hours.
From Taft Avenue, Espana Boulevard, Quiapo, or Ermita hotels (such as City Garden Suites along Mabini Street near Rizal Park), ride any jeepney, UV Express, or bus bound for Lawton, Divisoria, or Sta. Cruz. Alight at Liwasang Bonifacio (Manila Central Post Office) and walk behind the Post Office building to reach the main showcase staircase.
Street parking is not permitted on the promenade itself, and the immediate Post Office roundabout fills quickly on weekends. If driving, park inside Intramuros (Plaza Mexico, Fort Santiago, or Anda Circle areas), the Lawton Park N Ride building, or commercial parking garages across the river in Binondo, then walk onto the deck. For Grab or taxi drop offs, pin Manila Central Post Office or Plaza Mexico Intramuros.
Locate the Manila Central Post Office and Jones Bridge entry points and preview the evening atmosphere before your walk.
